Selena Gomez credits queer people with helping launch her tune career
Selena Gomez has thanked her LGBTQ fans for helping launch her harmony career back in 2009.
In an interview with GRAMMY.com about the launch of her latest EP, the Spanish-language Revelación, the pop celestial body reflected on her second single, “Naturally,” released in 2009, which helped kickstart her music career.
At the time, Gomez was most widely known for her portrayal of Alex Russo on Disney Channel’s hit series Wizards of Waverly Place.
But after “Naturally” launched, Gomez credited LGBTQ people with helping push the song — which ultimately ended up going 4x platinum.
“I remember when it was released, it truly started getting played in homosexual bars before anywhere else,” Gomez said. “I would listen from older friends that they heard it when they went out. I was so insecure that I was too young to be out and dancing to it with everyone.”
Asked about her support for the LGBTQ group, Gomez said she hoped her LGTBQ fans “hear in my music the importance of self-love and the energy that comes through vulnerability.”

While promoting her latest album, Revival, the former Disney celebrity got candid with LGBT outlet PrideSource about her affair with model Cara Delevingne.

"She's incredible and very open and she just makes me open," Gomez gushed. "She’s so fun and she’s just extremely adventurous, and sometimes I just want that in my life."
Delevingne helped Gomez commemorate her 22nd birthday last year on a yacht in St. Tropez, where the two were spotted showering together, which ignited female homosexual rumors.
Gomez addressed the gay buzz with PrideSource, saying, "I didn't mind it. I loved it."
The actress/singer went on to say that she has "absolutely" questioned her sexuality: "I think it’s healthy to earn a perspective on who you are deep down, scrutinize yourself and doubt yourself; it’s essential to do that," Gomez stated.
