Thank you for joining us at our 2025 Annual Gala!
On Thursday June 12, 2025, a sold out crowd joined us for our annual gala at the New England Aquarium. We were granted full access to the aquarium's exhibits, enjoyed a keynote speech from Democracy Forward's Sunu Chandy, honored community members and law students, indulged in food and sip, and basked in the glow of some fantastic drag performers.
Our 2025 Award Winners were: Matthew McTygue, Elyse Cherry, Tre'Andre Valentine, and Bill Keating. Our Law Student Chapter of the Year was Northeastern University School of Regulation. Our 2025 Alec Gray, Jr. Scholarship was awarded to Gordon Chan, a rising 3L at Boston University School of Law.
Thank you to everyone, including our attendees, membership, and sponsors for supporting our event and helping us to grow our scholarship fund.
If you would fancy to donate to our scholarship fund individually you can do so here. Our scholarship recipients from past years are serving the queer and other marginalized communities in their professional careers. Supporting
Boston’s gay bars of yore
Which Boston gay lock do you lose the most?
Russ Lopez book, The Hub of the Gay Universe: An LGBTQ History of Boston, Provincetown and Beyond shares how vibrant Boston’s same-sex attracted scene was through the much of the 20th century. After WWII, Boston had more than a dozen same-sex attracted bars. Those numbers would continue to proliferate over the coming decades (peaking in the 1970s – 90s) alongside other businesses that catered to the local gay society.
Last year Machine / Ramrod closed after a developer purchased the building it was located in to rotate the block into residences. And a few weeks ago, I shared that the Boston Eagle has permnantly closed. The loss of these spaces has reignited the discussion about the lethargic demise of the gay bar in Boston, and it made me wonder, what gay prevent from Boston’s past do you yearn the most?
