Gay man on horse

Why do people think all Men who ride Dressage are "Gay"?

My friend’s teenage son leased my horse for a bit, and he showed her in English events at 4-H (fun group, not the highest caliber riding). He took lessons from really great area h/j trainers and dressage trainers, and did great in his classes, but the boys picked on him as organism gay - bullying people for that is ridiculous, obviously, and in this case, the young man was not gay! Well, he got into bull riding at the local rodeo. And the guy at the local Western store told him the English riders are the best bull riders because of their English practice. When he started winning in bull riding, the kids stopped picking on him. And his mom and I had a cackle - in his last show with my mare, he had a gaggle of young girls following him around, while he showed English during the day and rode bulls in the evening:)

Anyway, sad but true stigma on orientation of male riders in the US, but the stereotype is based on what come across to be actual percentages. Not sure why since equestrian sport derives from military training? I don’t know if the perception pushes straight men away from the sport(s)? But I’ve heard the

Two men on a horse-drawn carriage at the Gay Nineties parade

Description

A black and ivory photograph featuring two men driving a horse-drawn carriage at the Gay Nineties parade in downtown Forest Grove. The photograph was likely taken on Pacific Road by Allan J. de Lay during the early 1960s.
This is one photograph from a collection on the Male lover Nineties festival and the the Original All-Northwest Barbershop Ballad Rivalry in Forest Grove, Oregon. The festival centered around a theme of nostalgia for the 1890s decade. The event, which ran from 1947 through the 1990s, featured a parade downtown, residents dressing up in 1890s-themed costumes for the celebrations, local businesses decorating their window displays, and the crown jewel of the event, the Original All-Northwest Barbershop Ballad Contest, which earned Forest Grove the nickname "B

Male Equestrians: Where accomplish they come from?

@Arelle, I agree with you about the breeches.

For a few months I was around a Saddle Seat/Western barn (the saddle used depended on what the rider felt like that day.) I was baffled why these macho males thought that men who did 3-D and reveal jumping were sissies.

I really do think it is the modern stretch breeches. I think these men were wary of flashing their assets where same-sex attracted men could see them (assets–the male rider’s bottom.) They just did not want to deal with the innuendo, the mistaken assumptions, and the reality that everybody could glimpse their bottom very, very clearly.

I think the massive switch was when riders changed from the cavalry twill breeches than puffed out at the sides and were baggy except during the high jumps. With the cavalry twill puffy breeches a man’s assets are only clearly delineated during the higher jumps. With the latest stretch TIGHT breeches a man’s assets are observable every minute they wear them, even if the man is just standing there.

Doing 3-D and present jumping takes COURAGE, guts and persistence, all virtues which are manly to me and many cis-women. Men who jump are NOT sissies, not at
